INTERNED

Finished writing INTERNED and looking forward to a reading and then rehearsals.

When I began writing INTERNED I didn’t think, even though the play is based on my experience of being a political prisoner interned in Armagh prison in ’73-74, that I could write it without revealing too much of myself, but I am happy that wasn’t the case. Less is more, sometimes.  The play travels through my letters and poetry but still gives me enough privacy not to define who I ever was nor who I am, I say I am and not who I’ve become because that would be like saying: prison shaped something  in me that wasn’t there in the first place and that is not how it was.
